The help for setting up user reviews has been updated with some screen shots.

3.0.8 Released

Simple Review 3.0.8 has been released (download). An upgrade is available for 3.0.7 users (download, unzip and then follow instructions).

Also don’t forget to download the new search plugin.

The release contains some Joomla 1.6 fixes for user reviews and various smaller fixes and changes. Full list:

New. When writing a review the ‘select category’ step is removed if there is only one category.
New. Added star rating ability to forms.
New. Option to show/hide the review alias on the user review form (defaults to hidden).
New. Google image search for selecting user review images.
New. Review and category aliases are now optional. If not entered it will be generated from the name.
Fix. Issues with including jQuery and jQueryUI.
Fix. Frontend user review listing not allowing editing.
Change. Updated to jQuery 1.6.1.
Change. Tidied up user reviews form (more to come).
Change. User review alias is always filtered (based on tag configuration alias replacement setting).

I have had a bit of a change of heart, there will be some more 3.x releases.

Some things to expect in 3.0.8:

Some users have reported issues with user submitted reviews, so as well as investigating these issues I am cleaning up the submit review form.
The form for submitting comments and reviews now uses a star widget for rating instead of a text box (if enabled). I have chosen to use RateIt which is a jQuery plugin by Gidon.
If you only have one review, then the select category step is removed when writing a review.

2.2.4 Re-Released

The previously released 2.2.4 had some installation problems. Both the main installer and patch have been corrected.

2.2.4 Released

Version 2.2.4 has been released (upgrade). It is another small release and fixes the category order being ignored as well as new lines in user reviews not being preserved.

Update: There is currently an issue with the 2.2.4 installer. Please install 2.2.3 and then apply the above 2.2.3 to 2.2.4 patch.

The release is very minor and just includes a few layout fixes for the user review submission form.

User Reviews Beta

Simple Review 2.2.2 provides a beta (i.e. experimental) version of user submitted reviews to be used at your own risk. Currently when enabled any registered user may submit a review (future versions will allow more control), the review cannot contain any HTML and it must be published by an administrator before being displayed on the site (any time a user saves a review it will revert back to unpublished).
How to enable user reviews:

Download the yvBBCode plugin (direct link). Install it. Publish it.
Under the User Reviews tab in your Simple Review configuration set Enabled to true and add an email address to receive a notification when a user submits a review.
Select Configuration

Enable User Reviews
While still in your Joomla administration select User Menus from the Menus menu.

User Menu

Click the New button.

Click the Simple Review node (under Internal Link).

Under User Reviews click the User Review – Submit node.

Select Menu Type

Give the menu item a name.

Set the Access Level to Registered.

Select Registered
For every category that you wish to allow user reviews you must edit the category and check Allow User Reviews.

Enable for Categories
Leave feedback here.

I will be releasing a new version very shortly (mid-June is looking like an achievable deadline). It will contain bug fixes and a beta version of user submitted reviews. User reviews is currently working but lacking some features so I would like to release a beta version to get some early feedback.

Planning has also started on version 2.3. Version 2.3 will include a huge improvement to the Simple Tags system ({sr_title1} etc.) and some tweaks to the current template system. It will also include a final version of user reviews.

I would like to request some user feedback on the current template system, can you please post your thoughts here.
