Edit by NRyan115]

Version 2.2.2 provides a beta version of user reviews.
Currently it is quite basic and does not have some features such as community/social integration.

You can read some more here (http://simple-review.com/315-user-reviews-beta.html), try it out and then leave some feedback here.

Thanks.

Row1, thank you for taking the time and effort.

Currently it is a bit basic (for example perhaps an addition of an auto-thumbnail system) for the users and not that configurable on the user review side.. Personally I'd also like to see a much more featured BBCODE list but I take it that's down to the yvBBCode plugin.

I do though have one problem and that is the main review box (the one that vyBBCode governs) is only 2 lines high, even though in write.php you've specified 500px and 100% height (the blurb box that has similar coding is fine). Is this something that can be adjusted?

I'm looking forward to the refinement of this and as I've made clear before I believe that this user review feature will make this Joomla component more and more popular

ThanX Kymmy  :-*

Thanks Kymmy for the prompt feedback.

It would not be hard to hide the image inputs (you could do this now by editing write.php), but I am not sure how an auto-thumbnail system would work, please feel free to elaborate.

What extra BBCODE tags would you find useful? I initially chose yvBBCode as it was easily to get working, there is no reason why I cannot customise it or change to another plugin if the demand is there.

The textarea definitely should be more than 2 lines high, what browser are you using? I have only tested in FireFox and Opera but will try IE when I can get my hands on it. According to this page (http://www.w3schools.com/TAGS/tag_textarea.asp) adding a rows attribute should work (try rows='20').

So as you know it is currently very basic, but now that the foundations are there I hope to rapidly release incremental updates.

Text block:Yes you're quite right, IE8 displays 2 lines and Firefox displays the whole large block (about twice as large as the BLURB box, will try the row attribute when I get a chance  ;D

Auto thumbnail:  I meant that when you entered a picture URL the site would automatically create a thumbnail from the image instead of needing a manual thumbnail to be created. In that case perhaps an image upload then the image and created thumbnail can be stored locally?

BBCode: At very least the addition of font size and color selections, also maybe video tags (youtube/Vimeo) as well as a more friendly URL and IMG tags (some form of javascript like for example what Vbulletin uses) so that those not familiar with BBcode can use these tags more easily by being prompted for the URL/image with linking text.) I'll have a look round for perhaps other BBCode options as I know you're busy I'll see if there is another replacement joomla plugin that can be intergrated.

My reviews save OK and appears in the MY REVIEWS and ADMIN sections OK, the only issue is that they are not published automaticaly..

Is there a default I can change to auto publish all reviews in the mean time until perhaps an option is put in user review config?

[edit] Also to confirm that the email function works OK ;)

Thanks for confirming that it works.

I purposely did not add auto publish, I need to be more confident that it is performing correctly and does not allow the user to post anything that they shouldn't.

Worked fine with Firefox 3.6.3 and Joomla 1.5.17

Rowan, I linked the image to one on the web and it never showed up, the thumbnail does show up on the main review. I don;t understand where the main image should be displayed??

If you open up your review template (http://simple-review.com/help/templates) you will most likely see this:
Code: [Select]
<div class='reviewContentBody'>
<img src='{sr_thumbnailURL}' align='left' alt='{sr_name}' class='reviewThumbnail'/>
<?php echo $vm->content;?>
</div>

The default template only shows the thumbnail image, if you would rather show your main image you can change it to this:
Code: [Select]
<div class='reviewContentBody'>
<img src='{sr_imageURL}' align='left' alt='{sr_name}' class='reviewThumbnail'/>
<?php echo $vm->content;?>
</div>

I have split this topic and the issues thelocaluk was having can be found here:

There should be a custom width attribute for front end review access. The custom title text boxes are very long and stick out the side of my template. It is not even a narrow template so I think this would be important for many people.

Also, there must be something we can do with the landing page after clicking the user review link from the menu. I know its a beta so im not complaining as much as wondering what you had planned for this. A couple of text links is too simple even for Simple Review.

Agreed there, I'm already looking at replacing both links with a couple of nice buttons to suite my proposed site ;)

Is there a way to change the screen none site members get when they try to write a review and they see:

Fatal error: You must be logged in. in /home/pscrowdc/public_html/joomla1.5/administrator/components/com_simple_review/addons/modules/UserReview_Module/UserReview_Module.php  on line 401

You'll probably find that Rowan has restricted it to registered only and above whilst it's in beta. You could always comment out the check routine but that will probably cause issues with who the review is associated with.

Are you using this on a live site? If yes then I'd be patient especially if you are going to allow unsecured review submission ..   :o

Hi, yes it is a live site so I don't want to do anything thats going to make more problems than its worth. I'll wait for future updates, as it is at the moment it is working really well with no issues  :)

You should set your Joomla menu item to only be visible to registered users.
