User Reviews
« on: March 07, 2007, 04:50:39 AM »
First, Thanks for setting up this forum!

I'd like to see an option to disable user reviews altogether until they're functional.  Also, I'd like to be able to specify whether or not avatars are used.

Do you mean user reviews or user comments?

User reviews are not currently there and user comments can be turned off.

If you are familiar with HTML you can easily modify the comment form and comment display to not show avatars.

administrator\components\com_simple_review\addons\plugins\Comment_Form\Standard_Comment_Form\
Standard_Comment_Form.html.php
Standard_Comment_Form.js

and
administrator\components\com_simple_review\addons\plugins\Comment_Display\...\
*.html.php

Will post a tutorial on this sort of customization once it is out of beta.

Is User Reviews going to be available later for v.2.0?

Well that would certainly explain the difficulties I was having with the 2.0 beta.

I also fully support this request: being able to have frontend/user reviews would increase so much the value of simple-review.
Cheers

Another thumb up for this request (I know it's priority 2 but now it should be moved up the P1 as there's nothing else left in P1 ;)

With User Reviews this component would be perfect and would give Jreview a run for it's money.

Row I know you're busy (probably trying to earn a living) but could this girl please, please, please, pwetty please have a possible ETA on this feature??  :D

ThanX Kymmy

I posted an update with no ETA here: http://simple-review.com/309-updates.html

Does anyone have any preferences about forcing the reviews to only be in BBCode or would you prefer HTML and the dangers that come with it?

I will have a beta out next month (wanted to do it this month but I am going on holiday amongst other things). It will be left in the beta stage for a while to make sure it is secure and usable.

Well if its on the front end and you have unknown users who may make reviews i would say bb should be fine. I mean, can't you still edit the templates anyways?

Hi Row1,

If the reviews are limited to registered and above then BBcode only would be fine (I wouldn't like HTML reviews on an open site) :) Plus I'm not sure most of the members on my site would know what to do with HTML :D

ThanX for the update and enjoy your holiday.. Anywhere nice?

Yeah agreed, there is the option approve reviews the review before publishing, so HTML could be acceptable ... but the approver would have to make sure there was no JavaScript hidden in there. The main problem with BBCode is:
1) If a back-end user decides to edit a review then I have to limit them to BBCode as well. If I don't do this then the user would no longer be allowed to edit their review as it could be potentially a mix of HTML and BBCode. Perhaps this can be solved by not allowing users to edit their reviews once they have been approved.
2) If an administrator submits a review from the front-end they would also be limited to BBCode, which they may or may not like.

The HTML would be done via the standard Joomla editor i.e. they wouldn't see the HTML. But I guess it is still a bit dangerous and provides more work for approvers if HTML is allowed.

So far it looks like BBCode will continue to be the way to go - it will make it easier for me.

Just going to Hong Kong for a few days, nothing too exiting  8) but a lot of things to prepare.
